Educational Trainings

  • A first step toward reducing the staggering number of abuse victims is through education and awareness.
  • Trainings are FREE and can be readily available for any age group/demographic.
  • All of our trainings have been developed with a trauma-informed lens. Trigger/Content Warnings will pre-face each training that touches on sensitive material.
  • Scheduling a training/educational opportunity can be done in-person or virtually via Zoom for any number of participants. Trainings can be scheduled anywhere from 30 mins – 90 mins, as well as short, informal information sessions.

For Providers:

Recognizing & Responding to Child Abuse

This training provides best practice, trauma-informed responses to child abuse, in an effort to ensure children’s safety and limit revictimization. Training topics include mandated reporting laws in Massachusetts, recognizing signs/symptoms of abuse, how to properly respond to disclosures, and minimal facts screening techniques.

Trauma 101

This training provides an overview of trauma and it’s impact on children, for professionals providing direct care. Training topics include the impact of trauma across the lifespan, common traumatic stress reactions, and best practices for responding to children after a traumatic event.

Exploited Youth: Trafficking in Bristol County & the Virtual World

This training breaks down CSEC (Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children). Training topics include effectively identifying and responding to suspicions of trafficking, recognizing indicators that a youth is a victim and understanding your role as a mandated reporter. Elements of CSEC broken down will include sex trafficking, sexting, sextortion, and CSAM (child sexual abuse imagery).

Educating Kids in a Digital World

This training equips providers with the tools to educate, monitor and protect children against the dangers of the internet. Training topics include educating youth on ways to use devices safely, online predators, and your role of reporting cyber crimes such as sexting.

For Youth:

Digital Safety (Assembly or Classroom Options)

Children today spend most of their time connected to a digital device, a powerful tool that comes with major safety concerns. Youth in this training will learn about safe uses of the internet (social media and video games), legal and social-emotional consequences of sexting, and red flags of online predators in an effort to reduce dangers to youth online.

“Not for Sale”: Sexual Exploitation Prevention for Youth

The primary barrier to exploited youth receiving services is the lack of knowledge and awareness to know what’s happening to them is abuse. Youth in this training will learn more about defining CSEC, stereotypes about traffickers vs. fact, and exploitation within the virtual world including sextortion, CSAM, AI and deepfakes.

“No Means No”: Body Safety & Boundaries

In this training, youth will explore how to engage with peers in healthy, respectful ways while honoring both their own and others’ personal space. Training topics will include the importance of listening to your body and mind; tools for saying “no” confidently and clearly; how to set and respect boundaries; and how to build trusting, safe relationships.

Protecting Your Child in the Digital Era

Raising a child in the digital era can be a daunting task. In this training parents/caregivers will be equipped with the tools to keep their children safe online. Participants will learn more about the most popular apps where children are at risk, ways to educate youth and tips to better monitor devices.

“Your Body is Your Own”: Abuse Prevention & Risk Reduction

Most parents do not think twice about teaching their children how to cross the street safely. Teaching children how to keep their bodies safe should be just as natural. This training empowers caregivers with the knowledge and tools needed to begin this difficult conversation. Topics include abuse statistics, facts/myths, caretaker choices, how to talk to your child (including proper terms for private body parts), signs of abuse, and how to respond to a disclosure.
